I'm a little late getting this out -- I have a good excuse -- but I'm excited to share this quick collection of value experiences just in time for Mother's Day! The Personal Progress program is all about progressing to become like our Heavenly Parents, and a lot of that is by preparing to be earthly parents. All of us have excellent examples of mothers in our lives, and these experiences give us the opportunity to learn from those examples and find ways to exemplify them through our actions.

<img alt="Personal Progress for Mother's Day!
And I've also got a beautiful quote from Jeffrey R. Holland to help young women remember the sacred love of their mothers.

The Personal Progress Helper has grown in so many ways since it's inception almost 5 years ago. It started out as a little blog I made as a Beehive with a couple ideas, and now as a graduating Laurel, it's grown into a hugely popular site with hundreds of tools for young women and their leaders. I really want to continue to grow The Personal Progress Helper to reach more young women, families, friends, and leaders--but it has reached a plateau. Coming this Summer, The Personal Progress Helper will be receiving a major facelift. This has been a long-time coming, with a couple motivations behind it.

On the technical side, Blogger (which I love dearly) is no longer adequate for hosting all of the content of The Personal Progress Helper. I'm going to be switching over to a new host which will offer top-notch hosting that can do everything I need it to do including increased storage and security, eCommerce options (which means selling files directly from the website in addition to Etsy), custom template themes, and a billion other things that sound boring but do cool things.

And on the fun side, The Personal Progress Helper will be increasing the amount and type of content it produces. Until now it has primarily been a source of printable handouts and packets, which are great but don't reach the target audience of YOUNG WOMEN. Starting with this relaunch, there will be more posts specifically tailored to youth, with ideas and tips -- maybe even a meme here or there.

My hope is to have all of this finished by June 1st so it's ready to go in time for Summer!

The most exciting thing coming from The Personal Progress Helper upon the completion of this updated website is *drumroll please*

My Personal Progress Helper

This book is the culmination of my experience in the Young Women program. It's a journal/planner/coloring book/study guide designed to make Personal Progress fun and meaningful. It has multiple pages for working on each value experience and tools to plan and track your projects. This project is pretty near and dear to me because it's exactly the type of tool I wanted when I first started Personal Progress. And in a sweet twist of irony, I ended up basing a lot of the pages in this book on my own journal as a Beehive.

Some of the technical things that are good to know (and are subject to change):
Page count: 240
Dimensions: 8" x 10"
Color: Black and White (I really wanted to do it in full color, but that would literally cost 10x more)
Tentative Cost: $25 (group discounts will be available)
Tentative Release: July 2016
A PDF edition will also be available

And now back to the website -- and how it's all connected. I'm really excited to implement these changes, but it will take a decent chunk of money--between the hosting, the software, the design framework, and a bunch of meticulously calculated in-betweens--it's about $600 dollars. I've set up a GoFundMe page to allow others the opportunity to contribute towards this. Every little bit will be hugely appreciated. In fact, to show my appreciation, those who contribute $50+ will receive an early edition of "My Personal Progress Helper." You can contribute here:

I've had so many people asking for a General Conference study schedule since the day after General Conference ended! I actually had the privilege of attending several sessions in person, and it was a really powerful experience. I am usually a really big note-taker, but this year I was a bit more relaxed and was able to gain some really great insights from watching it in person. Despite making it a big event, I usually struggle to be consistent in studying Conference talks after the fact.

This study schedule has been helpful to me in the past, and I hope it will be again! The talks aren't organized by session, but are paired up by topic (very loosely, though). It's spaced out with two talks per week, starting May 15th and ending September 11th. It's super adaptable and only serves as one suggestion for how to get the most out of your study.

As always, studying General Conference could be an AMAZING Personal Progress Project. You could make a study journal or a blog for recording your thoughts, or highlight quotes in each talk about a particular young women value--there are so many possibilities!

Back as a beehive, I remember having a mutual Personal Progress night where we'd been asked to find a talk on womanhood to discuss together. We all came excited to discuss and share, and when it came time to read, it turns out we all had the same talk (thanks to the fact that it ranked #1 of LDS.org's search). It was President Faust's "Womanhood; The Highest Place of Honor" from the year 2000. And so we discussed it really in depth and had a great experience. The brownies didn't hurt either.

I don't think I've read the talk since I read it six years ago with my Beehive class, but I recently felt inspired to take a glimpse at it again. I was reminded of being a beehive, brand new to Personal Progress. I was strolling through memory lane when something really cool stood out to me. President Faust totally predicted what it would be like in 2016! Specifically, how Personal Progress would've changed by 2016.

We wonder what the Young Women requirements for Personal Progress awards will be like in the year 2016. Hopefully the values and standards of Young Women will be increasingly focused on spirituality and service to others.

Personal Progress has changed significantly since the year 2000. Back then, young women were still using the program started in 1985. This program included the seven YW values, each with a selection of experiences. There was a set number of experiences you needed to complete each year as a Beehive and a Mia Maid, and then as a Laurel you were supposed to complete two 20-30 hours projects centered around a Young Women value.

In 2002, they changed the structure of the program around quite a bit. They kept the seven values, and the experiences and projects, but now instead of pacing out the experiences and projects based on age, you could go at your own pace. The other significant change was that you now needed to complete a project for each value, following six experiences per value.

Most recently in 2009, they changed the program again. They kept the structure the same (though changing a few experiences and minor guidelines) but added the value of Virtue. This value is unique because it has fewer experiences, and has a required project of reading the Book of Mormon.

Now that we've had that brief history lesson, what does it have to do with President Faust's statement?

He mentions two specific things which he hoped Young Women would be increasingly focused on: spirituality and service to others.

SPIRITUALITY

A huge element of spirituality is self-reliance, and the way the program has changed is definitely designed for increasing self-reliance. The program restructure in 2002 enabled Young Women to work at their own pace without the pressure of deadlines every birthday. It also gave them more freedom in selecting the experiences and projects which would help them grow the most.

Another significant change which has definitely encouraged a spiritual increase is making reading The Book of Mormon mandatory. With the 2002 program, reading one of the Standard Works was a suggestion for a Faith value project. Now that it's required, and especially under the value of Virtue, it has prompted Young Women around the world to actively increase their testimony of The Book of Mormon.
Just this past April 2016 Conference, Elder Rasband shared

What did we learn [from the Youth]? We learned that our youth love the Lord, sustain their leaders, and desire to have their questions answered! Questions are an indication of a further desire to learn, to add to those truths already in place in our testimonies, and to be better prepared to “press forward with a steadfastness in Christ.”

This newly called Apostle has noted this spiritual growth among youth in the church, and the fact that they're actively seeking further knowledge of this Gospel.

SERVICE TO OTHERS

Personal Progress has always heavily emphasized service. The way Personal Progress enables service hasn't changed much--but the opportunities for youth to serve have never been so plentiful. Youth are getting involved in their communities more and more. Studies have shown that millennials are more compassionate and charitable than previous generations, and chances are good that that trend will continue to grow.

Another huge and unprecedented way young women and finding service opportunities is through the growth of missionary and family history work on the internet. Young women are blogging, Snapchatting, Tweeting, Instagramming, and everything-elsing about the way the gospel (and Personal Progress) is blessing their lives. There are Missionaries who are required to use Facebook for missionary work!

And family history and temple work are moving forward in ways nobody could imagine 16 years ago. Research has never been easier, and temples are being built at an accelerated rate. Indexing millions of records takes only 5 minutes at a time. Elder Bednar shared:

Your fingers have been trained to text and tweet to accelerate and advance the work of the Lord—not just to communicate quickly with your friends. The skills and aptitude evident among many young people today are a preparation to contribute to the work of salvation.

Personal Progress is the greatest tool available to young women in 2016 to help them increase their spirituality and service to others. Not because it's a great to-do list, or because it keeps you perfectly on track, but because it's designed to help you with YOUR personal progress. It helps you to stay focused on what is spiritually important while going at your own pace and focusing on your interests.

President Faust was certainly following inspiration when he made that statement. If he were alive today, he would certainly be impressed with the virtuous young women of 2016. So let's keep going!
I love Easter! I think in some ways I prefer it to Christmas, only in that I feel like there's less opposition from negative voices, and less abundant secularism (though I love the fun, secular celebration, too!) I love that it's a time when we focus on Christ's Atonement and the miracle of His life, death, and resurrection.
I love the idea of journaling cards, which allow you to record your thoughts and feelings without the pressure of a giant bound book with hundreds of blank pages. These all feature cute Easter themed illustrations, and some of them have prompts to help get your creative juices flowing.

Of course, we have to tie things back to Personal Progress over here. These would be perfect to use while completing the Faith 5 Easter Experience (since the journaling cards included may not be adequate for you), or these could be used in a Family Home Evening lesson (Faith 3) or Mutual activity to help people start thinking about Easter.

Some places have more winter than others, but no matter where you are, the clear skies and yellow flowers that come with Springtime are so satisfying. And more important than the change of season is the renewed focus on the Atonement as we celebrate Easter! It's coming quite a bit sooner than it usually does, but that only gets me more excited.

As with ANYTHING, Easter is a great opportunity to work on Personal Progress! In particular, Faith #5 focuses specifically on the personal impact of the Atonement. A lot of people do some sort of Easter countdown in the week preceding it, and so that's what I've turned this experience into. Each day you read one passage from the experience, and record your thoughts on that verse. You end on Easter Sunday by recording your testimony of the Atonement, and how your understanding has deepened as you've studied.

I LOVE the Plan of Salvation. I love studying every single aspect of it and gaining new insight into the big picture that God has in store. What we understand of it now is only a glimpse of it all, and the idea that there is so much more to be revealed excites me.

Last year I created a number of handouts, all of which were specifically meant for the lesson "What is the purpose of life?" I loved those, but I also wanted to play around with my newly acquired fonts, and so I've created some fun handouts that go with nearly every lesson.

I can hardly believe it's already February! Warm and fuzzy feelings are in the air with Valentine's day quickly approaching, and what better way to celebrate than with Personal Progress? So many of the experiences are about being compassion and serving others, but I really want to focus on Individual Worth 3. Learning to recognize that everybody is a child of God changes everything about how you treat people. Everybody is human and makes mistakes, but when we're compassionate to others, it has the potential to change them for good.

I put together a fun worksheet for keeping track while working on this experience, using beautiful watercolor flowers from Angie Makes. It outlines the whole experience and has a place to write each day.
Not only is it the start of a new year, it's also time to start over with Come Follow Me! I love studying it all, but I especially love going back to the basics and returning to the big picture. The doctrine of the Godhead is so essential to understand, and so this month I've selected some powerful quotes which have been influential in teaching me about the Godhead.
These aren't in any particular order, since most of them could be useful in more than one lesson.

<img alt=""The Godhead" January Come Follow Me Lesson Handouts" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJgRa_T9dHXka1ODQpNFAE6aVJIlutQDWySXJ1mJMefve3meFQ41dUBkX8vCaZcL4KGwFYZwaLXvqqDKxz7cp3g4NotL5abkEuLBWSmTqjow51G5WEIKydgr3ZVSQ_dNnVB8D3hxMQB9M/s1600/godhead-quotes1.jpg" title=""The Godhead" January Come Follow Me Lesson Handouts" />

I love John 17:3 for how simple and profound it is. Eternal life is knowing God. And with our revealed doctrine we see that a correct understanding of the nature of God is essential to Eternal life!

I was reading through some of the talks in the lesson outlines when the words "PRESS FORWARD" stood out to me. How perfect is that? Elder Bednar gives us the perfect example of how to press forward through the Atonement.

D&C 76 is one of my favorite sections, and verse 22 is especially powerful. Joseph Smith's three-word testimony is so profound, and one small detail that has always impressed me is the fact that exclamation points cost more than periods back with printing presses, but it was that important to include that added emphasis.

I love Sister Wixom. She seems so gentle, but she gets straight to the point! Once we know we're children of God, how do we let that knowledge transform us?

It's time to start looking forward to the new year! 2016 is going to inevitably be a huge year for me, and I'm excited to see how to incorporate Personal Progress into it! It's always fun to look back on the progress that's been made and set goals accordingly, and though life usually gets in the way,

<img alt="Tons of resources for New Beginnings theme "Personal Progress Helps You to Become Practically Perfect"" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk3MAa08XVxqKr1Z-RttY_7UfYQY-UcGSHyEwNeSwejWbc_aPSq5b2jOes3S6lJQZGc_-v7v761tsyRP_1xEI39P_4Ka4_rP014GGe-Wyoa9zm8MOFknG0ZBc5B4qLv7rVpo629MJSkoQ/s1600/practically-perfect-new-beginnings.jpg" title="Tons of resources for New Beginnings theme "Personal Progress Helps You to Become Practically Perfect"" />

It's here! I'm so excited to finally share this New Beginnings theme! I truly believe it was a spark of revelation, since I've seen and heard how excited so many people are about it. I've been getting emails almost every day this month about when I'll have these resources available, and now their here!

I don't have an entire program written, since there are so many ways to interpret this theme. I do offer a couple of ideas for different talks based on quotes, plus hopefully the resources I do have are more than enough to inspire leaders and young women to create their own unique program!

And so I have a request! Anybody using this theme--regardless of whether you use the materials--share how YOUR program went. Different talks, decorations, refreshments, musical numbers--I would love to hear (and see) it all. Email personalprogresshelper@gmail.com or leave a comment!

The first thing you need for a great program is great invitations, right?

<img alt="Tons of resources for New Beginnings theme "Personal Progress Helps You to Become Practically Perfect"" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYSkD2Tj0mixFv_XmJQ-uopQ5Uf0d30n0eNDxsynJY6BHTQ8Q8wpGMuIpAoCgirlrgkT5aQzbpyinUmHBe0prcqO11WeYR4Ew2VonGrLlFE2oGejBf8Q1sE3OrQphJbl9JU-AZYA-W5fo/s1600/mary-poppins-long-pinterest-1.jpg" title="Tons of resources for New Beginnings theme "Personal Progress Helps You to Become Practically Perfect"" width="650" />

This fun invitation introduces the theme to the young women with an irresistibly fun design! Order these invitations on Etsy and I'll happily customize all the details for your program!

I have tons of posters for this program (because I really like posters!) I've got three different posters with the theme "Personal Progress Helps You to Become Practically Perfect," and a set of six posters each with a song quote on it. These could be used as decoration, or even as a reference for talks. All of these posters come as 8x10 JPG files.

These adorable posters use lines from the song "A Spoonful of Sugar" to describe the different Young Women classes. They include illustrations what the line of song describes and uses the symbol for each Young Women class. They would be perfect to use as each class president describes the purpose of their Class and to also emphasize work ethic behind Personal Progress. These are FREE and come as 8x10 JPG files.

No program is really complete without refreshments. There are so many ideas out there for Mary Poppins refreshments that I'm not even going to mention any. These signs for either a "Spoonful of Sugar Cafe" or "Jolly Holiday Cafe" are perfect to set up at any refreshment table, and along with them comes a blank sign to label refreshments with. These all come FREE as a PDF.

To finish off this huge set of downloads, I have three quotes which I can see as serving as the framework of multiple talks, depending on the emphasis of your program.

First off I have a quote from the Proclamation about successful families. The story of Mary Poppins is really about building family relationships, which is shown during the finale of the film in "Let's Go Fly a Kite" and so I have a playful design with kites in the background to go along with this quote.

Next is a quote from President Uchtdorf about how the height of our testimony doesn't matter as long as we are all seeking to come unto Christ and be perfected in Him, which ties in perfectly with the idea of measuring up to be "practically perfect in every way." It could also lead into how Personal Progress is a process of growing better a little at a time and going at our own pace.

The final quote is one that I love from Sister Burton. She focuses on how covenants are the key to helping us become perfect. The focus of the entire Young Women program is to help us each prepare to make covenants in the temple and honor the covenants we've already made, so this quote is a perfect way to bring things full circle.

Each of these is available for FREE as a 4x6 JPG.

And now that you've reached the end of this incredibly long post, HERE IS THE DOWNLOAD LINK for all of the free files mentioned (which, for an overview, includes an 8x10 theme poster, YW value posters, class symbol posters, refreshment signs, and quote prints!) For anything else, or customizations of any of these files, head on over to Etsy! If anyone has questions or would like additional resources, comment or email.

I thought I was done with Christmas things as I've been working on content for 2016 and focusing on real-life Christmas celebrations, but one quote has been popping up a lot lately that I wanted to revisit. Elder Maxwell has an amazing way with words, and this quote really touches me. It tells us the role we need to play in our own Christmas story, and it's such a powerful perspective to examine things from this season.

Thanksgiving is so soon! (Which means Christmas is right around the corner!) I've been thinking a lot about what it means to be grateful, and while I'm not the kind to proclaim my gratitude on Twitter and Facebook, I still love reading about the gratitude of friends and family. In my pondering, of course my mind turned to Personal Progress. Initially, I didn't recall any experiences directly related to gratitude, but then I sat down to work on Divine Nature 6, and what should I find but a whole passage about gratitude! I felt briefly ashamed at myself, and then incredibly excited. I knew I wanted to expand this idea a bit more in order to make it a more meaningful experience this season. I know Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away, but why does thanksgiving need to stop after November 26th?

I have a handful of printables for this. I have one with the entire experience on it, and another with the brief scripture which popped out at me in my reading, Colossians 3:15.

<img alt=""Be Ye Thankful" Printable for Divine Nature 6 Gratitude Challenge" border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4cmtRA722ynzP7CZDYab9_DSkopfgF7WPlw6Gy7E2_QzYFjrAxmwnX-GgNwLrVvyHhZyQMVXqSYvvjh6XTaOtLnDEDbejvKWQmSKOMcWLGLjsjWTohy7dEWJ1xPUHOFOw2fvGjIRFTu4/s640/be-ye-thankful.jpg" title=""Be Ye Thankful" Printable for Divine Nature 6 Gratitude Challenge" width="426" />

These are each a 4x6 300dpi JPG. Download here!

Of course, the experience isn't exclusively about gratitude, but any divine attribute you feel inspired to work on. BUT given that everyone feels a bit more grateful in November, I feel like it's worth putting the offering forward to focus on this specific attribute.

And because during those two weeks it's easy to lose track of things, I have a handy sheet for keeping track of what you're grateful for each day. Social media is also awesome for this, and the experience talks about recording progress in your journal, so expanding on things there is even better.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and good cheer is starting to spread about. I see this as the perfect excuse for doing some Personal Progress! Of course we think a lot about food this time of year, and Personal Progress turns this into a service opportunity. Good Works experience #2 is all about planning and preparing meals with your family, and helping them to gather together for meals. If that doesn't sound perfect for Thanksgiving, I don't know what does! The nice thing about this experience is it isn't a one-time thing, it's two weeks of helping with meals. Not only do you develop really useful skills, but you come to appreciate the hard work that it takes to care for your family's needs.

I had lots of fun creating these quick planning sheets. The left column is for planning out the menu, and the right column is to keep a shopping list for these meals. Having something simple like this makes planning a lot easier, which leaves more time for the more important things. There are two sheets, one for each week, with two separate designs, to keep things looking fresh!
<img alt=""Why is it important for me to gain an education and develop skills?" Come Follow Me Lesson Resources" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihL1_VteKwCZvyTSxVA_3BTsVVmfQmihq23TSCCrnapYv3fZ3dyk0jKbpggtYFxI1LjOI3aJON1rBaVbSLRZqnQhEW7ugIFHwuQbQ5Avz86P6h_RDQaURwJMutTOney6o5ozihat3HmKI/s1600/web-cover.png" title=""Why is it important for me to gain an education and develop skills?" Come Follow Me Lesson Resources" />

I have not been consistent in the past few months of creating Come, Follow Me handouts, but I'm changing that (and next year: watch out!). The topic of self-reliance seems sort of out of place with such BIG doctrinal topics, but as I've studied it more, it makes so much sense to include it in the curriculum because it's all about APPLYING the doctrine to ourselves.

I don't have handouts for every lesson topic this month because I've had a lot of other projects to work on, but I do have resources galore for the topic which I got to teach to the Laurels this month, which is "Why is it important for me to gain an education and develop skills?"

To be completely honest, I didn't use ANY of the resources suggested in the lesson plan, even though I loved them all. I just followed the Spirit, and I'm super happy where it led me! My lesson focused a lot on the Plan of Salvation and following the Spirit, and how Personal Progress is a tool we can use to develop skills.

I personally also felt that the Laurels had been deprived of handouts lately, so I have quite a few handouts prepared, using some of my favorite quotes!

First off is President Hinckley's well-known quote about women needing an education. Instead of just the first paragraph which is more frequently quoted, I really like the rest of his statement so included it all on the handout, which is a half-sheet.

<img alt="Gordon B. Hinckley Quote about education for Come Follow Me lesson: "Why is it important for me to gain an education and develop skills?"" width="414" />

Next I have a quote from one of my favorite talks by President Uchtdorf that talks about how we all have talents and thinking out of the box in discovering your talents.

<img alt="Dieter F. Uchtdorf Quote about talents for Come Follow Me lesson: "Why is it important for me to gain an education and develop skills?"" width="308" />

This is probably one of my favorite quotes ever, so I'm really surprised at myself for not making a handout with it yet! THIS is the reason why I love Personal Progress. This explains the power of it so plainly and precisely.

<img alt="Julie B. Beck Quote about Personal Progress for Come Follow Me lesson: "Why is it important for me to gain an education and develop skills?"" width="308" />

This last handout is a worksheet for Individual Worth #4. In putting this together, I flipped through my journal from when I was 12, and it's really cool to see which goals stayed the same and which have changed. Even if most of the young women completed this a while ago, it's a cool way to evaluate where you are in achieving your goals.

<img alt="Personal Progress Individual Worth #4 Worksheet for Come Follow Me lesson: "Why is it important for me to gain an education and develop skills?"" border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgesce0G3R3E5F5-Lga9PIvBlO5HbAXkRF0iQaaj0SaLz_huv6N71x9AEFcxbu-rSbrcJMQbPP0FWkgpXC5yxHHS8YVpp-usfoHcwvwhNh2zV3aHrTUeXJ2lpdS3wV5GxOOfm9w44kdmXQ/s640/individual-worth.jpg" title="Personal Progress Individual Worth #4 Worksheet for Come Follow Me lesson: "Why is it important for me to gain an education and develop skills?"" width="414" />

All of these tools could also be really great for a mutual activity to follow up about this lesson and focus on Personal Progress!

I think maybe I get too excited about planning ahead sometimes. I just had a laurel presidency meeting after not having the opportunity to have one for several months and it was really productive! Most of that was from the fact that I have amazing counselors, but maybe a tiny sliver of that was from the preparations I made in having these resources available. My hope is that in 2016 we can be even more organized (though I don't know how much longer I'll be serving as class president) and find more effective ways to serve.

I feel like these resources have a leg up on some of the other resources out there for class presidencies, because these are things I've personally found useful. Of course, every ward does things a little differently, so I've generalized some of the things on here and tried to leave some room open for personalizing to your ward. I also tried really hard to keep things in line with the handbook, because even though there's plenty of wiggle room there, it isn't bad to refer back to the basics.

This download has almost everything I could think of including, because I like being thorough. It has a calendar, lesson schedules, presidency meeting agenda, activity planning sheet, opening exercises sheet, and new beginnings & young women in excellence planning sheets. As a bonus it includes binder covers and month tabs to add functionality to these tools as binder fillers.

And because I love coordination, the fonts and colors match the other 2016 Youth Theme resources I've made so far. All of these resources and this Class Presidency Binder resource pack are available in my Etsy store.

I know! I know! Plenty of people still haven't finished planning their Young Women in Excellence program, but when my creative juices start flowing, I have a hard time containing them! My sister has been obsessed with Mary Poppins lately, and so with practically perfect tunes bouncing around my head while I've been doing Young Women in Excellence designs, the idea came to me for a practically perfect New Beginnings Theme.

As a disclaimer, I don't have a clue what my ward's plans are for New Beginnings in 2016 and it's likely we won't go with my idea because I'm too bossy already, so I probably won't be sharing a lot of details about how to go about putting together the program if I do not in fact put together the program. That being said, the designs I'm working on do include multiple posters with quotes from Mary Poppins and General Conference with designs that allude to the theme.

To whet your appetites, here's the first poster I've created, which features the theme "Personal Progress Helps You to Become Practically Perfect," and has a playful, classy design reminiscent of the Broadway musical poster. (Note that it is low quality and watermarked and is not meant to be printed--a high-quality printable will be released late December/early January)

<img alt=""Personal Progress Helps You to Become Practically Perfect" New Beginnings 2016 Theme for Young Women" border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheqFq9iqOWvCQWMdwYrNX8sk04Fnqcm-5xqfDENNNmvRN_kaS1XIOc_mTcgsi_ThyphenhyphenLvY9uYqRdHlmPDsR_HQTRT8M8HTHBZkdDAbFmhieXVs1wQW4V7B16KBgQqxVergRxh-rvuRjoPqM/s400/mary-poppins-new-beginnings-preview.jpg" title=""Personal Progress Helps You to Become Practically Perfect" New Beginnings 2016 Theme for Young Women" width="290" />

So now the question is: What theme will your ward be using for New Beginnings?

The year is steadily approaching its end, which not only means it's time for Christmas shopping, but it's also time to start planning for next year! I'm a big planner who loves calendars, but I've been a slacker the past little while, So as a means of self-motivation I created this 2016 calendar! This is just the start of quite a few class presidency resources I'll be making, since the new year is a great time to refocus class efforts.

These calendar pages are portrait so they can easily be put into binders (without having to flip it sideways) and leave enough blank space (without the confines of boxes) for writing whatever notes needed for activities and lessons. Just underneath each month is also the Come Follow Me topic, to serve as a reminder while planning lessons and activities.

The calendar is a PDF which can be downloaded here.

Scripture Mastery is probably my favorite part of Seminary. I still struggle with the idea that waking up at 5:00 is going to help me become a better person, but I endure it anyway. Scripture Mastery, though, is something special. I love how they all teach the basic principles of the gospel, and I'm always surprised by how frequently I use them in the weirdest situations!

I was sitting around one day and thought "Wouldn't it be cool to make candy puns for Scripture Mastery?" and my head kept spinning for the rest of the day. I brainstormed with my older sister, and we ended up with a list of candies for all 25 Old Testament Scripture Mastery verses that I'm actually pretty proud of. My only rule was that it had to be a candy I could find walking through the grocery store, and I was successful! Of course it isn't perfect, and some puns are better than others, but they're still all pretty amusing. In fact, I've started coming up with more for the other standard works!

The fun part now is finding uses for these puns. My two main ideas were to have students try to match the candies with the verses, OR they could be used as incentives for memorization. Candy has a way of motivating even the least motivated students to do things. I'm sure there are DOZENS of ideas out there for memorizing, teaching, chasing, and more! (And feel free to share them!)

The list is below (along with a couple explanations). I considered making wrappers for all of them, but then there were too many different sizes of each candy, so instead I made nice, uniformly sized printables for each verse. These printables are available in my Etsy store. They can be used as cards for a game, attached to candy bars, turned into a bingo board, or anything else anyone can think of. .

Isaiah 29:13-14 – S'Marshmallows
The restoration was S'MARVELOUS and S'WONDERFUL (This one is a stretch, because it relies on being familiar with the song S'Wonderful, but I couldn't think of something better)
With His STRIPES we are healed (This is actually legitimately part of the story behind the candy cane)

My ward always picks to best themes for Young Women in Excellence & New Beginnings. They tend to lean a bit to the secular side, but then the spiritual metaphors are awesome! This year our Young Women President was inspired by the Award Show theme idea from Lolly Jane. The laurel class was responsible for organizing the program, and we all loved the idea! Our amazing Young Women Presidency was super on the ball, even after they were reorganized two weeks before the program. I was responsible for the invitations, and that's about it! I also helped with music and decorations, but there were no super-stressful assignments.

There were a couple awkward moments, like being escorted down the red carpet by the young men, with the tallest and the smallest of each gender being paired with each other, and tripping over the weirdly placed spotlights--but overall it was great. After the hymn and Young Women Theme, our Young Women President gave an awesome talk about how we're the actors and directors of our own lives, and how Personal Progress helps us in that. We went in order of value, having each young woman get up and give her "acceptance speech" describing her project. Then their parents would get up and talk about how great their daughter was and present them with an award (each with a creative title) and then they would receive their "Moroni Award", which was a vase with an Angel Moroni decal.

Because we had 20 young women, we didn't have anything else in the program, but that's as it should have been: focusing on the young women's individual personal progress. At the "after party" we had low-key, elegant refreshments and casual conversation. It was a little sad thinking it was my last Young Women in Excellence as a young woman, after reminiscing about what I'd done over the years, but it was definitely a high note to end on.

I had a lot of fun playing with the designs I used for the invitations and decorations. I didn't actually tell anybody that I'd had these designs since May, when the theme was first brought up. I tweaked them quite a bit when the time actually came for the event, but the basic idea of channeling the Oscar's logo with the Angel Moroni stayed the same.

First off I have my invitations. They were really fun, and also surprisingly challenging to create, since I was playing with fairly new software I wasn't familiar with yet. The final product is something I'm pretty proud of. Customized invitations are available in my Etsy store.

Next, I have the red carpet backdrop, in gold and red. We had about 10 of them printed normal-sized and pinned up against a room divider which was used as our stage backdrop as well. These come as a PDF.

I also have two Angel Moroni images. One is just the straight up Angel Moroni, and the other is the Angel Moroni superimposed on the triangle, channeling the Oscar's logo. These can be used as stencils for tracing, or even used as additional backdrop images. They're also capable of being blown up fairly large, so they could be made into life-size cutouts if one had the budget for that! These come in a PDF.

One of my favorite creations is this blank movie theater marquee. This is super versatile! Initially we were going to have the names and projects of each girl put on the marquee and have them projected up behind them. We ended up not being coordinated enough to pull that off, but that doesn't mean they can't be useful! They could be used as door signs, posters, projections, food labels, gift tags, or even the invitations themselves (though I'd personally suggest my invitations)! This comes as a PDF and a JPG. Text can't be added to the PDF (sorry!) but a JPG could be opened in Word or Powerpoint and have a text box added over it.

Lastly, I have a Young Women Theme print to match everything else. It uses elements of the marquee, and adds a little splash of color to the otherwise dominantly Gryffindor color scheme. It's an 8x10 (or 8.5x11) which is available in my Etsy store.

Ever since General Conference ended less than a week ago, I've been asked when I'd be coming out with a study schedule--so here it is! My last schedule doubled up talks fairly randomly because of the number of weeks vs number of talks, so I evened it all out by delaying it a few weeks, so each week has two talks. If you're looking for a schedule which starts THIS WEEK, then you're out of luck--though you could start now anyway and ignore the date, thus giving you a couple weeks to catch up if you fall behind. Otherwise get ready to roll on November 15th!

The way I paired the talks was a bit different, too. I decided I wanted a talk from an apostle each week (which I had with one exception), but that I still wanted to try to pair them by topic. I didn't go back and read every single talk to pair them up, but I did flip through my notes, and I think that reading each pair with the search for a common bond in mind could deliver really interesting results.

No matter your study strategy, hopefully this schedule will prove useful!
I loved General Conference! There were so many powerful messages from our amazing leaders. There were a lot of themes that crossed over multiple talks, like being focused and obedient. Overall I thought it was wonderful, and I look forward to studying all the talks over the next 6 months (and keep an eye out for a study schedule!) I also got excited about the idea of ponderizing, so keep an eye out over the next month for some exciting tools to go with that!

But back to the present--I had lots of fun during the sessions, as I did during the women's session last week, creating some quote cards. I used the same basic design and got to play with lots of my favorite colors! By the time conference was over I'd created almost 40, and so I figured I'd put those together with the quotes from the women's session and wound up with a grand total of 50 conference quotes. I know I missed some great ones, but I managed to use a lot of really amazing ones.

The collection includes 50 300dpi JPG files designed to print 4x6. They're perfect for sharing at church, or keeping at home (maybe for some ponderizing?). Print a few at a time from home, or order prints of all of them at once. Download the collection here (watch out--it's a big file!)
I know some might say that it's too early to start thinking about Christmas, but I've been celebrating since Easter! Last year I introduced The Living Christ Christmas Tree Memorization Project, and this year I'm doing it again. Having these words ingrained into my mind was very transformative. It started out as a daunting challenge, especially having started several weeks late, but soon it became natural. I started reciting it as I went to bed, and in the morning while driving to Seminary. Some of the more touching moments came as I'd go over it during the Sacrament. One little document did huge things to deepen my testimony of Jesus Christ, and made Christmas even more meaningful--so thank you, Sister Marriott!
I have to admit that I've gotten a little bit rusty, so I'll be re-memorizing it this year. And so I've also updated the packet a little bit. I tweaked the illustrations a bit, cleaned up the formatting, and changed the text to be more reflective of my experience--but the essence is the same!

Download the PDF packet here!
And for fun, I created an infographic-style visual to go with the project that's fun for sharing and visualizing your progress.
I loved the Women's Session! I loved the emphasis on hope which seemed to tie together the four excellent talks we heard. It was definitely spiritually edifying, and I look forward to studying the talks in more depth.

I was inspired by some of the beautiful quotes we heard, and so threw together some beautiful prints in between talks and after the session. I had fun playing around with new fonts and pretty pastel colors. These are perfect for sharing in Senior Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society, or keeping around the home, be it in frames or on fridges.

One of the (surprisingly) most popular things on this website is the Book of Mormon Goal Setting Chart I shared a long time ago. Because so many people seem to find it so valuable, I've decided to create them for the other Standard Works. To me the obvious book to do first was the Old Testament, since that is the book being studied in Seminary this year. The requirement for Seminary is only to read 334 selected chapters, as opposed to the 929 total chapters. I've only made the chart for the full length of the Old Testament, but if there's interest in just the selected readings I can certainly consider it.

929 chapters sounds really daunting, but with the structure of the Old Testament, a lot of the earlier chapters are fairly long, and you can get those crossed off while the momentum is still fresh. And then, if you've fallen behind by the time you reach Psalms, then you're in luck, because 150 chapters are contained in under 100 pages.

I'm personally focusing more on pages than chapters, because of the inconsistent length of the chapters. I usually read to the end of whatever chapter is on that page, leading to getting ahead a couple of pages, which is super nice.

These can be printed in full color or black and white, and come in two sizes. Download here.
